Writing Workshop: Telling the Truth: A Creative Nonfiction Introduction

On Wednesday, December 6, 2017 @ 4p-6p, Professor Michael Burke of Colby College will lead a two-hour discussion on the nature, features, and tools of Creative Nonfiction for area residents. The Telling the Truth: A Creative Nonfiction Introduction session will begin with a description of the many types of Creative Nonfiction being written now, with examples, then turn to a discussion of the craft tools employed by the Creative Nonfiction writer. Following this introduction, participants will respond to writing prompts and practice drafting their own nonfiction, in the classroom.

This session is appropriate for anyone 18 and older. Participants should bring something to write on and with: laptop, iPad, pad of paper, etc.

Michael Burke has taught at Colby College since 1987, where he is Professor of English and Creative Writing, and Director of their Creative Writing Program. His nonfiction has appeared in the Boston Globe, The New York Times, Down East, Yankee, Islands, Outside, and other national and international publications, and he is the author of an adventure/memoir, The Same River Twice (University of Arizona Press). He received an MFA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in Creative Writing, and a BA in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley. He lives in Wilton with his wife, the fiction writer Patricia O’Donnell.
