In Honor of Dolly
"I love story songs because I've always loved books." ~ Dolly Parton
In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn't read or write. The
Dolly Parton Imagination Library was born.
Every month, more than 2000 children in Kennebec County find a book in the mailbox -- because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.
Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec signed on to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in 2024 to give our children the best start in life. LVK has since delivered 26,147 books to children in Kennebec County.
To help us all honor Dolly Parton's legacy and commitment to opening the world of reading to every child, please consider a donation to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Kennebec County. The Kennebec County program needs funding to continue. If your circumstances permit,
please donate to the Kennebec County Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
"Everywhere I go, the kids call me 'the book lady.' The older I get, the more appreciative I seem to be of the 'book lady' title. It makes me feel more like a legitimate person, not just a singer or an entertainer. But it makes me feel like I've done something good with my life and with my success."
~ Dolly Parton
Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you.
